As you all saw in part one, this past March the hubs and I returned to one of our favorite cities in the U.S.- Charleston, SC. We are completely in love with the old Southern Charm, the incredible food scene, and the relaxed vibe of the city. Ever since we visited for the first time back in 2015 we knew this city would be a place we continued to come back to over and over again. I've already shared the food and drinks from the trip and today I’m going to share where we stayed and the things we did on our trip to Charleston, SC.
Obviously, I have brought some specific outfits for the trip, I have spread pictures through out this post (and part 1) and all of them are linked with details in the Shop My Favorites section of my blog.
Last time around in Charleston, we stayed as an awesome Airbnb which apparently in not an Airbnb anymore… so this time we decided to stay right in the heart of downtown, only steps from one of our favorite Charleston restaurants. We booked a room at the The Mills House Hotel, a gorgeous historic hotel. The hotel was lovely, we booked it entirely on Chase Sapphire Reward’s point (which made it even lovlier) the ONLY downside to this hotel… as with many old hotels the walls are very thin. Let’s just hope that when you stay here you don’t get put in a room next to a baby that cries ALL NIGHT LONG… Thankfully that only happened the first night and the rest of our stay was wonderful.
The Things To Do
Like I said in the beginning, the main thing we do in Charleston is eat (and drink). But we did venture out a bit this time around. The first thing I would recommend is just walking around the city. The homes in Charleston are incredible. If you’ve never been before, there are tons of walking tours you can take to learn about the cities history. We passed on that this time since we had done it before but we still had a great time just wandering and getting lost in the gorgeous architecture.
I did convince the hubs to get out of the city for a bit this trip and we went and checked out a plantation. After very minimal research, I decided on Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens mostly because there were a few scenes from The Notebook that were filmed there. We ubered out to Mt Pleasant (we did not rent a car for the trip, if you’re planning to primarily stay in the Charleston proper area- you don’t need it) and spent an afternoon at the plantation. We did a tour of the grounds and a tour of the main plantation house, both of which were fun. And then we just wandered and took all kinds of picture in the gardens. Overall, it was fun but I would probably do a bit more research to learn about all the options for plantations before deciding which one to go to. That said, it let me get this awesome picture in front of their gorgeous drive.
Alright y’all, I’ve written A LOT at this point. I hope you enjoyed this overview. If you’ve ever been to Charleston, SC let me know what your favorite spots are. AND if you're curious to see how this year's trip compared to our trip in 2015, there are actually three posts on my old blog about that trip. Lucky for you- I haven't taken them down so you can pop over there and give those a read.
