I'm generally not one to go big on my everyday makeup, however a sweet friend recently gifted me the Heavy Metals metallic eye shadow palette by Urban Decay. Of course that meant I had to play with some glitter. For the first look I kept it in my wheelhouse (aka neutral) however I am super excited to play with some color very soon.
Today I'm sharing what is (for me) an everyday glam look. Keep reading to check out the products I used and click through the product widget if you're interested in picking any of these products up yourself!
Before I jump in to how I created this specific look, let's take a closer look at the Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette. I'm so thankful to my friend for gifting this to me because it is definitely not a palette I would've picked up for myself normally. It is made of all glitter/shimmer shades, one side leans a little more neutral and the other side brings out the color! The packaging is also worth calling out- it's super unique and very pretty but a tiny bit impractical. Overall though, it's fits the heavy metal vibe that Urban Decay was going for.
For this look, I actually used a second Urban Decay palette as well, the Naked Ultimate Basics palette. This palette is one of my all time favorites. It is perfect for any every day, matte eye look AND it's got you covered with both warm and cool tones (I actually have another post in the works with two different eye looks from this palette).
Now let's get in to the eye look... I started by mixing Tempted and Commando from the Basics palette and sweeping those in to the crease with a fluffy, blending brush as a transition shade. Next, I went over to the Heavy Metal palette and used Angelfire, Maiden, and Scream (one at a time) working with a flat shader brush from the inner corner to the outer edge of the lid. This created a slight gradient effect, and made the look nice and glittery! To intensify that gradient and give some dimension I went back to the Basics palette and used Lockout in the outer corner and blended in to the crease. As a finishing tough and just to amp of the shimmer I went back to the Heavy Metal palette and used my finger to tap more of Maiden directly on to the center of my lid.
I finished the look off my dragging a bit of those three shades from the Basics palette (Tempted, Commando, and Lockout) along the lower lash line to smoke out the look a bit. And I added a bit of Blow to highlight the brow bone. Last but not least I added Loreal Lash Paradise Mascara to my eyelashes.
Getting to the rest of the face, I used an oldie but a goodie for foundation- Too Faced Born This Way foundation. I used staples like the Tarte Shape Tape concealer, the Benefit Hoola Contour Stick, the Lorac Pro Contour palette, and the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Paaarty. I locked my brows in place with the Maybelline Brow Drama Brow Gel and finished the lips off with the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Athens.
I put this look together with a casual outfit which I attempted to glam up with a couple layered necklaces. Personally, I'm extremly casual most of the time so I loved pairing a heavier eye look and some subtle jewelry with jeans and a t shirt. You can shop some of these pieces (or super similar ones I found) over on the Shop My Favorites page.
That's it! What colors should I go for with my next look from this palette?? Help me get outside my comfort zone guys!
