This last year has been an interesting one, to say the least. I went hard in the blogging/Instagram game toward the end of 2017 and through the start of 2018. I met some lovely people who I learned from and also completely burned myself out getting in to the not so nice parts of the business. That led to me completely falling off the bandwagon and low key abandoning this little blog.
A few days ago, a sweet work friend pinged me and said I needed to get back to posting. Her taking the time to reach out and say that to me was so meaningful. I’ve had things like that happen just a handful of times with this blog but every time I’m so moved that anyone would take the time to read and to share their genuine support. It’s a beautiful reminder about how little it takes to make someone feel good, valued, or recognized.
If you work in a people driven business you probably hear about the importance of recognition in driving engagement in the workplace but a similar principle applies in friendly relationships. All it takes is a few seconds to mention your genuine appreciation for someone else’s actions but those words might go so much further in making that person’s day. Think about the last time you heard from a friend who you might not stay in touch with regularly. I bet you both told each other that you missed one another or how nice it was to catch up. And you likely left that interaction smiling and feeling so lucky to have a friend like that person.
What if we all sought to give someone feelings of love and appreciation every day? It could be as simple as a smile, a quick text, a heartfelt thank you, or a hug. If we all did that, who knows… maybe the world would feel just a little bit more kind. And I think we can all agree that would be a beautiful thing.
With all that said, I’m going to challenge myself to give others that feeling as often as possible. From my closest loved ones, to my coworkers, to the strangers I interact with at the grocery store. Everyone deserves to feel appreciated. Make that your personal mission for this week, aim to make someone else feel loved or valued.
That post got a little deep but to close things out… When it comes to this little blog of mine, I’m going to keep writing whenever inspiration strikes. Hopefully that will be just a little bit more often. Happy one year of Positively Pringle. Can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
