Despite living in Houston- where it is constantly humid- I've noticed my skin becoming much more dry as the temperatures have dropped. For me, the dryness is likely a combination of the cooler temps and failing to be diligent in my everyday skin care routine. Regardless of the cause, I've found a few products that help me refresh my skin quickly whenever it's starting to get dry and dull. I want to share my favorite products for saving my skin from it's winter dryness with y'all today.
First up, every good skincare refresh has to start with ensuring that your skin in completely clean. For me, that means removing the remnants of makeup that are probably still lingering on my face from the day (or possibly the night before...).
I keep this step very simple and use two Neutrogena products. The classic and ONLY eye make up remover I use is Neutrogena's Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover. This stuff will remove the stubbornest of mascaras and still feel gentle on the eyes. I also love a gentle cleanser and the Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser for Sensitive Skin is perfect from removing all the makeup and other gunk that builds up on your skin throughout the day.
Once you're all fresh and clean it's face mask time. A good face mask is an essential part of any at home pamper day or skin refresh. I love testing out different masks but I especially love when I find a mask that makes an immediate difference in my skin. This first mask I'm sharing today does exactly that. The Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask is like a mini facial in a mask.
This mask would not be a good choice for a relaxing bubble bath, but it is a great choice if you want to quickly revitalize your skin. According to it's description, this mask works in three different ways: exfoliates with pumpkin enzyme, peels with alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), and polishes with aluminum oxide. My skin is relatively sensitive so I only leave this mask on for ~4 minutes. For me, the chemical exfoliation has a very very slight burning sensation (but that just means its working!).
The results of this mask are incredible. My skin truly is brighter and more radiant after using this mask. Of all face masks I've tried, this is the best for seeing immediate results and I HIGHLY recommend it.
After using the relatively aggressive Pumpkin Enzyme Mask, I like to follow that up with a super nourishing/hydrating treatment. I switch this second mask up quite often, but I do have a couple favorites. One favorites that I did not use on this specific day is the Fresh Rose Face Mask. Today, I decided to use another tried and true mask, the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask.
This mask from first aid beauty feels a bit like a mix of a really thick lotion and oatmeal (as you might guess from the product name...). It is instantly soothing to the skin which makes it a perfect complement to the previous mask. According to First Aid Beauty this mask blends a duo of protective oats-colloidal oatmeal and avena sativa oat bran-with botanical antioxidants and skin-nourishing ingredients to help repair the look of and revive your natural beauty.
This mask allows for a bit more relaxation as you leave it on for 10ish minutes. For me that usually just means wasting some time on Instagram while the mask goes to work on refreshing my face. Once 10 minutes is up you can rinse the mask off and follow up with the rest of your skin care routine.
If I am doing these masks before bed, I will often add an additional boost of hydration by using the Olay Regenerist Luminous Overnight Facial Mask Gel Moisturizer. If it's during the day, I will generally just follow up with my regular day time skin care which in this case just means putting on my normal day time moisturizer the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Water Face Gel Moisturizer. I love this moisturizer for it's gel consistency which sinks quickly in to the skin and the use of Hyaluronic Acid which really ups the hydration for my skin.
And there you have it. These products take my skin from dry and dull to fresh and hydrated. If you're anything like me and you're not the best with skin care throughout the week... this combo will bring your skin back in to balance and set you up for gorgeous skin in the week ahead.
I'd love to hear from y'all. Do you have any holy grail products that bring you skin back to life when it's not looking so hot?
