One of the things I love most about moving to a new city, is exploring all that it has to offer. The hubby and I have been taking full advantage of that since moving down to the Houston area. Occasionally on this blog I will highlight some of my favorite places (usually food or drink related) to go on Weekends In Houston.
First up, Julep.
Julep describes itself as a "down-home cocktail bar with a roster of cocktails from the South & a laid-back vibe to match". That description is pretty spot on. We've taken to stopping by Julep for a cocktail to start off most of our date nights in Houston.
The hubs loves the classic Old Fashioned. I try to change up my order but I often come back to my summer favorite (it still feels like summer in Houston) The Kentucky Mule (a Moscow Mule with bourbon instead of Vodka). A couple other favorites are the Mint Julep and Armagnac Sazerac.
Julep has an intimate feel with the bar stretching across the majority of the room surrounded by booths and tables along the perimeter of the space. The crowd size varies depending on what's happening in Houston that day. We've seen it packed full during Houston Pride Weekend but other nights have been calmer and we've been able to easily pull up a seat right at the bar.
Like most bars and restaurants in downtown Houston, Julep offers complimentary valet however, if you do have a DD for the night. Save your dollars and swing around the back to park in their back parking lot. If you're like me you can also ask your husband to snap an outfit photo of you while you're back there.
If you're already a cocktail lover, Julep should be a regular stop for you. If you're not a cocktail lover yet, this is a great place to start!
