To close out 2017, I thought I would detail seven things I learned through this past year. Let's jump right in to it!
1. Planning a wedding is a lot of work but it is so worth it!
Getting married was the highlight of my 2017, so obviously this has to be first on the list! Planing a wedding in CA from WV was challenging at times but our day turned out absolutely perfect. Now I just wish I could marry my husband and have an excuse for a wedding every year!
2. Home really is where the heart is.
In 2017, we moved from WV to TX. For me, this was my fourth cross country move in ~5 years. This time, it took moving away for me to realize just how many things I loved about that last place I lived (Huntington, WV). We are loving TX and are so happy in the new home we are building, but it was also a good reminder that you're heart can be happy anywhere as long as you have incredible people (or animals :P) around you.
3. Exercise is a good thing.
As I mentioned in my How I (Try To) Stay Active post I've found a happier and healthier relationship with exercise in 2017 and it's had me feeling fantastic! I hope to keep it up and maybe even kick it up a notch in 2018.
4. Be picky when furnishing a new home.
When it comes to patience, I have none. I want to accomplish something and then rush to the next goal. But I've allowed myself to take my time with this house. We have a few empty holes still because I haven't found the right piece to fill the space yet, and that's ok!
5. Working from home has its ups and downs.
In June when we moved from WV to TX I also transitioned to a role that has me working from home. It's definitely been a change that has taken some getting used to. I love the flexibility that working from home gives me. An unexpected positive is that it's allowed me to learn to feel more comfortable in my own skin. For some reason wearing no makeup on a video call is a lot less intimidating than wearing no makeup in person in an office. On the not so positive side, working from home can be a little isolating... especially when moving to a brand new city.
6. Embrace your significant others passions.
This isn't necessarily a new learning but my husband and I have really lived this is 2017. He has been incredibly supportive as I've jumped back in to the blogging world- acting as my photographer, putting up with the extra time spent on the computer, even giving me gifts to use for blog posts! I've tried to reciprocate by supporting his hobbies. He has become quite the bourbon enthusiast this year and we've had the opportunity to have a bunch of fun, new experiences through that hobby!
7. Don't rush.
Similar to number four, I'm continuing to work on my patience daily. There is always a "next big thing" to rush on to and I'm the type of person who wants to do the rushing. Since we got married this year, that next big thing is probably a baby. While I can wait until that time in our lives, I keep reminding myself not to rush through the present. Enjoy the time we have together as newlyweds, take advantage of going on dates that last late in to the night, vacations to non-baby friendly places, and lazy weekends in which we only have to worry about ourselves (and our pup of course). The rest will come in time.
And with that I will call 2017 on this blog a wrap! It truly has been an incredible year. 2018 definitely has some big shoes to fill!
Happy new year friends! What are you looking forward to most in the new year?
